Celebrating the 150th anniversary of one-time House of Representatives

The idea of erecting a parliamentary building in Pest first emerged at the 1830 Pressburg assembly meeting. In 1843 Palatine Joseph assigned the planning job to Mihály Pollack, one of the most renown architects of the age but at the following assembly meeting deputies deemed his project too expensive thus rejected it. In 1845 a new international tender was called for, which eventually had to be cancelled due to the revolution of 1948. The new temporary House of Representative was finally constructed according to the plans of Miklós Ybl in 1865 and the Members of Parliament held their first session there in the same year on 14 April.
