Code Csemegi promulgated 140 years ago
The Code Csemegi is the first Hungarian penal code, entitled Act V of 1878 on Criminal Offences and Misdemeanours. The Act was named after the creator of the code, Károly Csemegi, barrister and State Secretary for Justice who has been working on the related bill for years on end, so that it could have been promulgated - after one and a half years of debate - on 29 May 1878, taking effect from 1880.
