In remembrance of the birth of Reformation

The New Testament freshly translated by Martin Luther and published in 1522 together with the complete Bible lavishly illustrated with woodcuts published in 1534 soon gained unrivalled popularity in medieval Europe. Due to the invention of the printing press, the novel translation of the Holy Bible spread rapidly and became the touchstone for further national translations around the world. In our Rare Books and Manuscripts Collection we also preserve a copy of the original Luther Bible.
