István Tisza, twice-serving Prime Minister of Dualism born 160 years ago

István Tisza, son of Dualism's outstanding Prime Minister, Kálmán Tisza was born on 22 April 1861. He studied law and economics in Budapest, Berlin and Heidelberg and in political science he even obtained a doctorate. He served twice as Prime Minister immediately before and during the Great War, and partly owing to this fact, he became one of the most ambiguous political figures in 20th-century Hungarian history.

16 April – Memorial Day for the Victims of the Hungarian Holocaust

Since 2001 on 16 April each year the Memorial Day for the Victims of the Hungarian Holocaust has been held in the country remembering the unprecedented cruelty towards the Hungarian Jewry during the Second World War. The Memorial Day was initiated by Zoltán Pokorni, former Minister of Education on 18 January 2000 (55th anniversary of the liberation of the Budapest Ghetto), who declared that 16 April be remembered at schools all around Hungary, as in 1944 on that day Hungarian authorities (under German supervision) launched the mass ghettoization of the Jews.

Online Hungarian Statutes by Grill

Hungarian Statutes by Grill Publishing Company was one of the most influential publications of the firm. Károly Grill's publishing house – established in 1841 – was one of the oldest company of its kind in Hungary. From 1890 onwards it specialised in releasing legal books, primarily statute collections and case law.
